Now, I’ll admit my own password hygiene isn’t always the best, though I have graduated from the days when I used “xxxxxx” for a few non-critical accounts under the reverse psychology assumption that it’s so obviously insecure, nobody would bother trying it. Genius, I know. But even I realise a four-character password is a big no-no.
And yet that’s exactly what was used to protect an encrypted file that was critical to the fundamental integrity of the Secure Boot, a UEFI BIOS security layer designed to ensure that a device boots using only the software that is trusted by the PC maker itself.
Ars Technica reports that, “researchers from security firm Binarly revealed that Secure Boot is completely compromised on more than 200 device models sold by Acer, Dell, Gigabyte, HP, Intel, Lenovo, Supermicro and others. The cause: a cryptographic key underpinning Secure Boot on those models that was compromised in 2022.” Ouch.
Apparently, a critical cryptographic key for Secur…
Another Sony blockbuster is coming to PC. The latest entry in the PS5 catalogue to make the leap is Horizon Forbidden West, which will be arriving on our shores—says Sony—in “early 2024” in its Complete Edition form. That’s the one with the Burning Shores DLC, bonus in-game items, and your standard digital knick-knacks like soundtracks and art books.
The port is being handled by Sony subsidiary Nixxes, the same studio that handled the very good ports of Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered (plus Miles Morales) and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. So with any luck we won’t have to deal with the kinds of bugs that plagued that port of The Last of Us earlier this year.
Forbidden West is the sequel to Zero Dawn, which is certainly a sentence with some nouns in it, and continues the robo-dino-hunting adventures of Ashly Burch as she “races to save the planet’s crumbling biosphere before vicious storms and a mysterious, unstoppable blight ravages the remnants of hu…
After some earlier rumour-mongering, confirmation has finally been given by Gigabyte that it is to release a new Radeon RX 6750 card, specifically a GRE edition. This will be exclusive to China but this doesn’t mean you won’t be able to pick one up, potentially in a pre-built system as with the RX 7900 GRE, if you’re looking for something a bit different.
It’s only been a few years since the world was battling with a pandemic but it feels so much longer ago. But one aspect of how everything and everyone changed during that time, that still impacts things today, was the rampant increase in cryptomining. From individuals in their bedrooms to large organisations, people were snapping up graphics cards in the thousands to turn them into vast number-crunching systems, all in the hope of making a pretty penny off the cryptocurrency market.
Such was the demand for GPUs that enormous orders were placed with TSMC and Samsung, the respective manufacturers of AMD’s RNDA 2 and Nvidi…
You might recall a couple of weeks ago that MultiVersus fans meticulously had picked apart a new gameplay video for its upcoming re-release, and came to two major conclusions: The game looked an awful lot slower, and the character models an awful lot bigger.
While the jury’s still out on the first deduction, the second one has recently been confirmed by the developer itself. Player First Games took to Twitter to share a comparison between the old and new character sizes, as well as a little explanation behind the change.
“You all noticed right away, characters seem to be bigger,” the tweet read. “Numerous players had difficulty tracking characters both in play and while watching. We wanted to improve overall clarity of battle while keeping the same fundamentals.”
Taking a peep at the comparison pics, you really can see just how miniature the models were. Shaggy’s head is nowhere near the bottom of the platform in the beta version of MultiVersus, whereas he looks fa…

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is set to launch on September 9, but developer Saber Interactive has big plans beyond the initial release. The studio shared its “Year One Battle Plan” today—a rundown of four seasons of planned content that will carry the game deep into 2025.
The Space Marine 2 season pass, included with the Gold and Ultra editions of the game, “has been envisioned as a way to enhance your customisation for your character,” publisher Focus Entertainment wrote in today’s update. “All the gameplay additions listed here in the roadmap (including weapons, game modes, and maps) are intended to arrive in *free game patches* and will be accessible to everyone.”
Interestingly, the first season of Space Marine 2 will be focused on player feedback, “quick patches,” and the addition of promised features like ultrawide display support (no, Space Marine 2 will not have ultrawide support at launch, which is a bit odd, but it will have Ultramarine suppor…
